In September 2022, ADPWL was invited to a regional workshop organized by APNSW to strengthen the capacity of our regional movement to improve sex workers’ access to social protection and fulfillment of our sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR)
Through participation in this workshop, the ADPWL team joined other experienced and emerging sex worker leaders from seven (7) countries across the Asia Pacific to develop sex worker resources and capacities.
The goals of this workshop sought to:
● Enhance regional knowledge and understanding of sex workers’ human rights
● Strengthen leadership within national sex worker rights movements
● Ensure sex worker activists and emerging leaders are equipped with the skills necessary to undertake human rights documentation and to develop national advocacy strategies
From this convening emerged the following priority actions to move forward the regional movement for sex workers’ rights:
(i) Conduct national surveys on social protection and SRHR issues impacting sex working communities
(ii) Develop and implement advocacy strategies to promote the social protection of sex working communities and protect the SRHR of sex working people
ADPWL works with APNSW as a VOICE Project national implementing partner, and we are excited to advance these project priorities over the next 2 and half years
